Water as Atmosphere
At Obsidian Landscapes, we design water features that feel intentional, sculptural, and deeply connected to their surroundings.
Why Water Changes a Garden
A well-designed water feature does more than look beautiful. It changes how a space feels.
The sound of water masks noise and creates calm. Movement introduces life and rhythm. Reflection amplifies light, planting, and architecture. Whether subtle or striking, water has the power to anchor a garden emotionally and visually.

Our approach focuses on balance — creating features that enhance the space without overwhelming it.
What We Create
Dry Riverbeds

Dry riverbeds introduce flow and movement without constant water. Using stone, gravel, and planting, they guide the eye through the landscape while improving drainage and structure. They are sculptural, low-maintenance, and beautifully seasonal.
Ideal for contemporary gardens or spaces that need texture and definition.

Ponds & Reflective Water
Ponds and still water features bring depth, calm, and reflection. From naturalistic ponds to clean-lined reflective surfaces, these features create a sense of stillness and connection with the surrounding garden.
Designed to feel timeless, balanced, and harmonious with planting and hardscape.
These are water features designed as focal points — bold, architectural, and refined. Using materials such as stone, concrete, or metal, sculptural features combine form and movement to create a powerful visual presence.
Each piece is custom-designed to suit the space and act as a true centrepiece.

Our Philosophy on Water
We believe water features should feel purposeful, not decorative.
Every line, sound, and reflection is carefully considered. We avoid off-the-shelf solutions in favour of custom designs that respond to the landscape, architecture, and how the space is meant to be experienced.
Our goal is to create water features that feel calm, balanced, and enduring — features that age gracefully and continue to elevate the garden over time.
The Water Feature Process
1. Site & Flow Understanding
We begin by understanding the space — how water will move, sound, reflect light, and interact with the garden. Every slope, viewline, and surrounding element is considered.

2. Design & Material Refinement
We refine the design by selecting materials, forms, and planting that support the feature both visually and structurally. Scale, texture, and long-term performance guide every decision.
Once approved, we oversee construction to ensure precision, quality, and design integrity. The finished feature is carefully detailed and balanced within the landscape for a seamless final result.
3. Build & Completion

Designed as Part of the Whole
Water features are never designed in isolation. They are carefully integrated with planting, stonework, lighting, and circulation to ensure the entire garden feels cohesive and intentional.
The result is a landscape where water feels like it truly belongs.

“Our garden feels completely different now. The water feature brings such a sense of calm — it’s become the heart of the space.”
